Last weekend (Thursday morning to Sunday afternoon) volunteer WPR members took part in Trussell Trust’s national collection to support local foodbanks. Every year Bangor Foodbank and Community Support organise a collection at the Tesco store at Springhill to raise funds and seek food donations. This year the focus was on collecting items to make Christmas hampers for those experiencing food poverty.
WPR members volunteered to hand out leaflets to shoppers and help collect the donations in what turned out to be a record breaking weekend for BFCS. Collecting over 2100kgs of food (equivalent to 5,066 meals), BFCS Project Manager, Ken Scott, commented that he was blown away with shoppers’ generosity and praised the involvement of WPR in supplying the volunteers to help out over the four days.
A big thank you to all who took part and to Mark Anderson who organised the event with Foodbank. It has been a fantastic way for the Club to show its community spirit and get behind this hard working local charity.
